Our Samhain Harvest Goddess Would Drink Petite Sirah
I awoke to a strange dream this morning, one that took me on a esoteric yet synchronistic journey through the historic underworld of fall seasonal harvest celebrations and rituals.
I discovered that Halloween is the teenage version of the ancient Celtic Samhain (sounds like "Sow-en") on the eve of Oct. 31 - and chiefly on Nov. 1. It was considered the start of the New Year for the Celts and was their most solemn and festive celebration. It is a time for the remembrance of death and our dearly departed as well as a time to party like rock stars because those of us dancing around the bonefire are still alive and sparky. Of course there's an all powerful Goddess associated with Samhain, her name is either Mongfind or Chinnamasta or the Crone or the Serpent Goddess. As I wondered what wine she'd drink during her biggest ritual of the year, I came across Professor Liz's latest post about Wine Goddesses Arournd the World
So now I am convinced, our Dark Goddess of Samhain would drink something earthy and very dark with a glimmer of brightness. I'd go with Petite Sirah, or check with Jessica Boone winemaker at Armida Winery's for the POIZIN!
Have a Happy Halloween!
